Chapter 16 - Whispers of SpringThe bitter chill of the Connecticut winter slowly gave way to the soft, vibrant embrace of spring. Across the sprawling grounds of the Harrington estate, green shoots pierced through the melting snow, and the surrounding woods came alive with the chatter of birds and the scent of damp earth and blooming dogwoods.

Inside the mansion, the atmosphere mirrored the season outside. The heavy, oppressive quiet that had defined the house for years was permanently replaced by the sound of genuine life—Lily’s musical laughter echoing down the hallways, the soft murmur of conversation from the kitchen where Mrs. Gable tested new recipes, and the steady, grounding presence of Clara moving with newfound confidence through rooms she had once only known in nightmares.
Daniel stood by the large bay window of his executive study, a cup of coffee growing cold in his hand as he watched Clara and Lily out on the lawn. They were planting a small garden near the edge of the terrace—bright yellow daffodils and pink tulips digging deep into the rich soil.
