Chapter 11 - The Fall of the Vance LegacyThe chaos inside the rotting boathouse subsided as quickly as it had erupted. Marcus and his elite tactical team efficiently secured the perimeter, cuffing a disoriented and screaming Richard Vance as federal agents arrived to officially take custody of the disgraced corporate heir.

Daniel sat on an overturned wooden crate near the edge of the dock, holding Lily tightly in his lap. The crisp night air off the lake was freezing, but neither of them moved. Lily had buried her face in the crook of her father’s neck, her small hands clutching his collar as the adrenaline slowly faded into exhausted relief.
“Is the bad man gone, Daddy?” Lily whispered, her voice muffled against his coat.
“He’s gone, sweetheart,” Daniel murmured, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head while keeping his eyes fixed on the flashing red and blue lights of the police cruisers reflecting off the dark water. “He’s never coming back.”
Within minutes, Marcus walked over, his tactical vest unzipped, looking down at them with a solemn expression.
“Local authorities have taken Richard into custody, Daniel. Between the kidnapping charges, the federal warrants for embezzlement, and Clara Vance’s testimony from the hospital, he’ll spend the rest of his natural life behind bars,” Marcus reported professionally. “We’re arranging a secure escort back to the estate. Everything is locked down.”

Daniel nodded slowly. “Thank you, Marcus. You saved more than just my home tonight.”
As they loaded into the bulletproof SUV for the drive back to Connecticut, Daniel knew the physical nightmare was over. But as he looked out the window at the dark highway, he knew they still had to face the emotional aftermath waiting for them back at the mansion—and at the hospital.
