Chapter 17 - The Final Judgment

Three months later, the family court judge handed down the final decree.
It was a total legal victory. I was granted sole legal and physical custody of Lily, permanently shielding her from any contact with Judith and reducing Ryan’s access to tightly regulated, court-monitored visitations twice a month at an official family facility.
Judith’s criminal case moved forward with a plea arrangement resulting in probation, community service, and a permanent restraining order, destroying whatever social standing she had left in her suburban community.
Ryan lost his corporate job following the fallout from the public court filings. Stripped of his income, his status, and his family’s toxic illusions, he was forced to move into a tiny studio apartment across town, working odd jobs to pay his court-mandated child support.
He tried calling me once from a blocked number, sobbing apologies about how he had let his mother ruin everything. I listened in silence for ten seconds, then hung up and blocked the number permanently.
