Chapter 13 - The Eviction Notice
While the legal coils were tightening around Judith and Ryan, their domestic life in Manhattan was falling apart at lightning speed.
According to an email forward from Sarah Vance, our divorce and custody attorney, Ryan was drowning in financial and legal distress. Judith’s “grandmother shower” had cost thousands of dollars out of their shared savings, and now legal fees for defending against child endangerment charges were bleeding them dry.
Worse still, Judith’s apartment—which was located in a building owned by a distant relative who had heard about the scandal through local social circles—was hit with an immediate lease termination notice due to unlawful conduct on the premises.
Judith expected Ryan to take her in. But Ryan, living in a panic over losing his job at his mid-level corporate firm after the police report leaked to his HR department, had nowhere to put her.
