Chapter 3 - THE APARTMENT OF PHANTOMS"We need to get your belongings. Your apartment isn't safe anymore," Antonio commanded as the SUV tore through the rain-slicked streets of Brooklyn.
"My apartment? Why would anyone care about my apartment?" I demanded, my voice shaking as I clutched the sapphire locket. "I’m a nobody, Antonio! I deliver pasta and struggle to pay rent!"
"You were a nobody until an hour ago, Sophie," he replied coldly, keeping his eyes on the side mirrors. "Now you're a target."
When we arrived at my brownstone, the front door was already ajar. Antonio signaled his guards to stay outside, drawing his weapon as he pushed the door open. The tiny space was completely ransacked. Couch cushions were slashed open, drawers dumped onto the floor, and my nursing textbooks lay torn to shreds across the linoleum. Suddenly, a figure lunged from the shadows of the bathroom with a combat knife. Antonio moved like thunder, parrying the blade, breaking the attacker's wrist, and forcing him to the floor with a heavy boot on his neck.

Before Antonio could interrogate him, the flashing red light on my digital answering machine caught my attention. I reached out with a trembling hand and pressed play.
A smooth, raspy voice filled the room, sending a chill straight down my spine: "Hello, little niece. I know you're standing right there with Antonio. Tell him Dante sends his regards... and that blood always demands its rightful debt."
