Chapter 16 - The Judgment Day

The federal district courtroom was packed to capacity when Judge Sterling hammered his gavel down for the final ruling on the Bennett Logistics embezzlement and estate fraud case.
Richard and Evelyn Bennett sat at the defense table looking like ghosts. Their high-priced legal team had filed motion after motion for continuances, but every single delay had been systematically struck down by overwhelming forensic evidence.
Marcus Vance slid the finalized judgment sheets across our table, a quiet grin of triumph playing on his lips.
“Case number 2026-FL-8890, the United States District Court versus Richard Bennett and corporate co-conspirators,” Judge Sterling announced, his voice ringing authoritatively through the silent room. “The court finds the defendants guilty on all counts of corporate fraud, asset misappropriation, and proxy forgery. All remaining equity stakes in Bennett Logistics are hereby stripped from Richard and Evelyn Bennett and transferred in full to the primary estate beneficiary, Laura Bennett, and her designated trust.”
A sharp gasp escaped Evelyn’s lips, her hands trembling as she clutched her handbag.
Judge Sterling didn't stop there. “Furthermore, due to the malicious nature of the retaliatory eviction and attempted endangerment of minor dependents, the court orders a complete civil forfeiture of the defendants' secondary residential holdings to cover legal restitution and victim compensation.”

Richard slumped forward, burying his face in his shaking hands. The empire he had spent decades guarding through deceit and intimidation had completely evaporated in a matter of months.
