Chapter 20 - Standing in the Sun

That evening, I stood once again on the secure observation balcony outside my E-Ring office, watching the lights of Washington, D.C. sparkle across the Potomac River.

The autumn wind carried the steady, purposeful hum of a city that never truly sleeps.

I looked down at the gleaming ribbons on my chest, my fingers brushing lightly against the silver and blue of the Silver Star.

They thought my story was defined by my brother’s shadow. They thought I was meant to be the invisible background character in a family obsessed with hollow perfection.

They were wrong about everything.

True strength isn't something given to you by applause, family praise, or manufactured legacy. It is forged in the quiet discipline of standing tall when the darkness closes in, and walking bravely into the light when the storm finally breaks.

I took a deep breath of the crisp night air, turned away from the balcony, and walked back into my office with a steady, unshakeable stride—ready for whatever horizon came next.
