Chapter 20 - The Unbroken Horizon

Spring returned to Austin with an explosion of vibrant wildflowers and warm, endless Texas skies.

Early one Saturday morning, before the rest of the house woke up, I stepped out onto the front porch with a mug of black coffee. The neighborhood was quiet, bathed in the soft, pink-gold light of dawn.

My phone buzzed softly in my pocket. I pulled it out—not expecting drama, just a weather update.

Instead, it was a calendar reminder: Corporate Strategy Meeting - Chicago.

I smiled, archived the notification, and tossed the phone onto the patio table. I didn't need to check flights or worry about emergency departures anymore. My life was anchored right here, grounded in truth, love, and absolute freedom.

Clara stepped out onto the porch behind me, wrapping a soft knitted blanket around my shoulders and leaning her head against my chest.

“What are you thinking about?” she whispered, looking up at the wide, unclouded horizon.

“Just looking at the view,” I replied, pulling her close, feeling the steady, healthy rhythm of her heartbeat against mine. “For the first time in my life, there are no shadows in the way.”

The past was behind us, buried where it belonged. The future was ours to write, step by unhindered step, beneath a bright and unbroken sky.
