Chapter 6 - The Flash of Emerald Under the Ballroom Lights

The grand ballroom of the Oakridge Hotel was transformed into a shimmering winter nightscape, complete with thousands of twinkling fairy lights draped across the vaulted ceiling and ice-blue draperies cascading down the pillars.

When Lily and Marcus stepped through the grand double doors, the ambient noise of chatting teenagers and thumping bass seemed to pause for a fraction of a second.

The custom emerald silk gown caught every beam of light in the room, shimmering like liquid jade with every step she took. The silhouette hugged her frame flawlessly, a stunning testament to the months of hard work, the late-night babysitting shifts, and the fierce battle we had fought just to keep it in our hands.

Marcus beamed proudly, his hand resting gently at the small of her back as he guided her toward the dance floor.

Across the room, a group of her classmates gasped, their eyes wide with undisguised admiration.

“Is that... is that Lily’s dress?” one girl whispered loudly. “I heard someone stole it!”

“Are you kidding? It looks even better in person,” another replied.

Lily didn't shrink away or lower her eyes. She held her head high, a radiant, confident smile breaking across her face as she stepped onto the polished wooden floor. As the DJ transitioned into a sweeping upbeat melody, Lily spun under the warm glow of the chandeliers, her spirit completely unburdened, finally claiming the night she had dreamed of for a year.
