Chapter 8 - Safehouse 11Six hours later, the interceptor drifted into a hidden, fog-shrouded inlet near the coast of Maine.

Nestled among the pine trees was an old, weathered cabin built from dark cedar logs—Safehouse 11, listed in the secret briefing papers.

Lucas carried a sleeping Noah inside, while Clara guided the other three exhausted boys. The interior was freezing, smelled of old pine and oil lamps, but it was secure.

After lighting a fire in the fieldstone hearth and wrapping the quadruplets in heavy wool blankets, Clara sat down at the rough-oak kitchen table, her hands trembling violently as she held a mug of hot water.

Lucas sat down opposite her, his face lined with soot, blood, and deep exhaustion.

"It's time, Clara," Lucas said gently. "No more half-truths. What did they do to my sons?"

Clara looked at the four boys sleeping soundly in front of the fire, then took a shuddering breath.

"Six years ago, when you were brought into my field hospital, your spine was destroyed," Clara began, her voice barely above a whisper. "Your mother’s corporate research division—Vance Global Bio-Tech—delivered an experimental gene-repair compound called Project Dawn. It wasn't designed to save lives, Lucas. It was designed to create synthetic neural pathways—a military application to create soldiers who feel no trauma, require minimal sleep, and calculate tactical outcomes instantly."

Lucas felt a sickening coldness settle in his stomach. "And the boys?"

"The serum required living human neural tissue to stabilize," Clara said, tears glistening in her dark eyes. "Eleanor ordered the lab to harvest embryonic cells from me while I was unconscious in the clinic. They created four identical embryos, using your modified DNA."

"They forced a surrogate pregnancy?" Lucas asked, his fist clenching until his knuckles turned white.

"No," Clara looked directly into his eyes, her voice trembling. "They used me. I woke up months later in a closed medical facility in Geneva, pregnant with quadruplets. Eleanor intended to raise them in a isolated lab as proprietary corporate assets. I escaped three weeks before they were born."

Lucas reached across the table and covered her cold hand with his own. "You raised them alone... on the run."

"They aren't monsters, Lucas," Clara whispered desperately, clutching his hand back. "They're just little boys. But their minds... their brains process information at ten times the speed of a normal human. They learn a language in a week. They read human emotion like data code. Eleanor and Julian will burn down half the world to get them back."

Before Lucas could answer, the door of the cabin clicked open.

Lucas reached for his gun instantly—but it wasn't an enemy.

Liam was standing in the doorway, holding a yellowed leather binder he had pulled from a hidden floor compartment beneath the rug.

"Dad," Liam said softly, holding out a document. "I found Grandfather's diary. He knew about Eleanor."
