Chapter 14 - The Sunday StrategySunday passed in a strange, tense stillness, like the calm before a hurricane.

While Valentina played happily in the nursery with her new toys, Diego spent the afternoon locked in his private study, reviewing corporate bylaws, trust amendments, and financial statements with his personal legal team over secure video links.

Marisol knocked softly on the study door around 4:00 PM, holding a tray with a fresh cup of black coffee.

Diego opened the door immediately, running a tired hand through his silver-streaked hair. He looked exhausted, but his eyes burned with fierce determination.

“You’ve been working for hours without a break,” Marisol said softly, stepping into the room and placing the tray on his desk.

“Just tying up loose ends,” Diego sighed, pulling her gently against his side. “My mother thinks she can blindside me on Monday with a vote of no confidence. What she doesn't realize is that I spent the last three years quietly buying out the minority voting shares of the original founding partners.”

Marisol looked up at him, surprised. “You prepared for this?”

“I prepared for the day she would try to control my life,” Diego corrected grimly. “She just didn't expect the catalyst to be a little girl with a golden button.”

He wrapped his arms around her waist, burying his face in her neck, breathing in her scent as if drawing strength from her presence.

“Marisol,” Diego murmured against her skin. “Whatever happens in that boardroom on Monday morning, I want you to know—you and Valentina are my real legacy. Everything else is just glass and concrete.”

Marisol wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him tight. For the first time, she truly understood that she wasn't just a bystander in his life anymore. She was his anchor.
