Chapter 20 - The First Clean Line

The next morning broke clear, silent, and luminous.

I sat at my oak drafting table in the home study, the warm golden light of the early summer sun spilling across the polished wood surface. The room was perfectly still, save for the distant chirping of robins outside the window.

I opened the top drawer, reached past the locked compartment where Arthur’s old legal ledgers and trust instruments rested, and pulled out a pristine, completely blank sheet of heavy white vellum paper.

I laid it flat in the exact center of the table.

I picked up my technical drafting pen, feeling its balanced, familiar weight between my fingers.

The past was fully resolved—the deception uncovered, the debts paid, the wounded healed, and the family name redeemed through honest work. The present was a thriving, breathing reality built entirely with my own hands.

I lowered the metal tip of the pen to the pristine white paper.

With a steady, unhesitating, and utterly confident hand, I drew the first clean, bold line across the page—starting a brand-new design from absolute scratch.

And for the very first time in my life, every single line, every angle, and every dream on that page belonged unconditionally, beautifully, and forever to me.
