Chapter 7 - The ListThat night, Dominic moved me into a secured apartment.

I wanted to refuse.

He didn't give me the opportunity.

“You're a witness.”

“I’m a waitress.”

“You saw the tablet.”

“So did your bodyguards.”

“Some of them are part of the problem.”

I looked at him.

“How many?”

“I don't know.”

That was the first honest thing he had said all night.

He handed me a folder.

Inside were photographs.

Three babies.

Three families.

Three deaths.

Each family had one thing in common.

They had crossed Dominic Moretti.

I looked up.

“You think this is revenge?”

“I thought it was.”

“Now?”

He looked at the photographs.

“Now I think someone is trying to destroy my family.”

I turned another page.

A hospital report.

Another page.

A photograph.

Then I froze.

I recognized the hospital.

“Where was this?”

“St. Catherine's.”

My fingers began shaking.

“Leo was there.”

Dominic looked at me.

“You're sure?”

“Yes.”

He took the photograph.

“What are you seeing?”

I pointed.

A nurse in the background.

“Her.”

Dominic frowned.

“Who is she?”

“I don't know her name.”

“But?”

“But she worked in Leo's ward.”

Dominic looked at me.

“And what does that mean?”

“I don't know.”

Then I remembered something.

The night Leo died, I had seen a woman standing outside his room.

She had been holding a clipboard.

She wasn't hospital staff.

I had asked her who she was.

She smiled.

And said:

“Just someone making sure everything is under control.”

I had forgotten about her for years.

Until tonight.

I suddenly remembered her face.

And she was standing in one of the photographs.

Dominic saw my expression.

“What?”

May you like

I whispered:

“She was there when my son died.”
