Chapter 20 - Roots Run DeepBy late April, Willowbrook farm was a riot of vibrant color and life. The apple trees were heavy with delicate white blossoms, the pastures shimmered with lush emerald grass, and the morning air carried the sweet fragrance of blooming wildflowers.

On a warm Saturday morning, I walked out to the edge of the southern pasture where my father had planted the old maple tree decades ago. The tree stood tall and majestic, its deep roots anchoring it firmly against every wind, storm, and season.
Emma walked up beside me, holding a small wooden gardening stake and a spool of twine.
"What are we planting today?" she asked with a curious smile.
"Something permanent," I replied, handing her a small shovel.
Together, we dug a small, careful hole right beside the ancient maple tree, placing a young sapling—grown from one of the massive tree's own fallen acorns—into the rich, fertile earth. We packed the dark soil firmly around its base, watering it with fresh spring water.
This land had survived corporate greed, legal warfare, and the bitterest trials of human nature. It had tested our resolve and stripped away everything false, leaving only what was real, enduring, and true.
