Chapter 15 - Elm Street Evening

By Friday evening, the autumn weather had settled into a comfortable, crisp serenity.

I left the office at 5:00 p.m. sharp, leaving the multi-billion-dollar empire in the capable hands of Harrison Cole and the new operational board.

When our sedan pulled up outside our modest apartment on Elm Street, it felt like returning to a sanctuary.

Maya skipped up the front steps, unlocking the door with her own little pink key ring—a celebratory gift we had picked up earlier in the week.

“Mommy, can we make pancakes for dinner?” she asked, dropping her backpack on the hallway floor.

“Pancakes with extra maple syrup and chocolate chips,” I declared, following her into the warm, familiar kitchen.

Later that evening, after Maya was fast asleep in her bed under her favorite quilt, I walked out onto our small front porch with a mug of chamomile tea.

The neighborhood was quiet. The maple trees rustled in the cool night breeze, casting dancing shadows across our welcome mat.

My phone buzzed on the porch railing. I picked it up, expecting a late-night email from corporate.

Instead, it was a simple text message from Arthur Sterling:

> First week in the black, Chairman. Sleep well.

I smiled, locked the phone, and set it down.

I looked out at the quiet street, feeling a profound, unshakeable peace settle over my soul.

They had tried to bury us. They had tried to treat us like outsiders who didn't belong.

Instead, we had rewritten the ledger, reclaimed our history, and built an unbreakable foundation that would stand long after the old guard was gone.
