Chapter 18 - The Final WitnessThe federal penitentiary in Florence, Colorado, was a fortress of gray concrete, razor wire, and absolute isolation.

Two days after the Manila operation, I stood outside the reinforced glass of maximum-security cell block 7. Inside sat my brother, Tyler.

The crisp dress whites were long gone, replaced by an orange jumpsuit. His hair was unkempt, his shoulders slumped beneath the crushing weight of a twenty-year federal sentence for wire fraud, conspiracy, and treasonous asset diversion.

When the heavy steel door clicked open, Tyler looked up. His eyes widened slightly when he saw me standing in the doorway, wearing my civilian suit and the silver badge of Division 9 Director pinned to my lapel.

“Chloe,” he whispered, his voice cracked and hollow. He didn't stand up. He couldn't.

I walked slowly into the cell, stopping a few feet from the steel bolted table. I didn't feel anger. I didn't feel triumph. I just felt the quiet, profound stillness of a chapter finally closing.

“Captain Thorne was arrested in Manila this morning,” I said evenly. “The entire Vanguard syndicate has been dismantled. Your mentor, Admiral Vance, is facing life without parole in the adjacent cell block.”

Tyler stared down at his cuffed hands, his jaw twitching. “Are you here to gloat?”

“No,” I replied quietly. “I’m here to tell you that the narrative is finished, Tyler. For twenty years, you lived in a fantasy where you were the golden boy and I was the family mistake. You built an entire life out of stolen valor and forged lies. And it all burned down because you underestimated the person you left in the dark.”

Tyler let out a ragged, broken sob, burying his face in his cuffed hands. “I lost everything, Chloe. Dad is broken, Mom is gone, and I’m rotting in this box.”

“You didn't lose everything because of me, Tyler,” I said softly, turning toward the exit. “You lost it because you chose a lie over the truth.”

I stepped out of the cell, letting the heavy steel door slam shut behind me, sealing the past away forever.
