Chapter 5 - The First DominoBy Thursday morning, the shockwaves of our preliminary legal filings began to ripple through the glass-walled offices of Meridian Logistics.

I sat at a corner table in a quiet café across the street from the financial district, sipping black coffee and watching the entrance of the Meridian building through the expansive plate-glass window.
According to Marcus’s network of contacts inside the federal court clerk’s office, the emergency asset-freeze injunction had been officially stamped by the federal magistrate at 8:00 AM.
At 9:15 AM, the first domino fell.
Through the café window, I watched a sleek black sedan pull up directly in front of the Meridian Logistics entrance. Two men in dark suits and federal windbreakers stepped out, walking purposefully up the granite steps and through the revolving glass doors.
They weren't process servers. They were federal marshals accompanied by an investigator from the DOJ’s economic crimes division.
My phone buzzed on the rustic wooden table. A encrypted text message from Marcus:
“Federal search warrant executed on the 42nd floor. Server banks mirrored. Physical files seized. Vanessa Cole and Derek Mercer have been formally served with notice of asset freezing and grand jury subpoenas. The show is officially on the road.”
I stared at the screen, reading the words twice.
For two years, I had sat at desk 42-B, watching them take credit for my labor, mock my dedication, and siphon the fruits of my hard work into their own private accounts while telling me to stay in my lane.
Now, their lane was closed permanently.
I took a slow sip of my coffee, feeling the warm, bitter liquid wash over my tongue. The anxiety that had weighed like a lead anchor on my chest for twenty-four months was entirely gone, replaced by an intoxicating, crystalline clarity.
I pulled my leather journal from my bag, opened it to a crisp, blank page, and picked up my pen.

They thought my silence was surrender. They thought my departure was the end of my career.
They were about to learn what happens when an analyst who knows every hidden number in the corporate ledger decides to write an entirely new ending.
