Chapter 4 - THE WOMAN IN THE HOTEL ROOMSix days after Madeline was born, Grace received an email.
The sender was Tessa.
The subject line read:
“You deserve to know.”
Grace almost deleted it.
She opened it anyway.
Tessa apologized.
Then she explained that Caleb had told her his marriage was essentially over.
He had claimed Grace knew they were unhappy.
He had told Tessa that they were staying together only until the baby was born.
But there was something else.
Tessa said the photograph had not been accidental.
She had challenged Caleb to stop hiding.
They argued in the hotel room.
Caleb had been drinking.
He said he was tired of being “the good guy.”
Then he took the photograph.
And sent it to Grace.
While Grace was in labor.
Tessa included screenshots.
Grace opened them.
There were months of messages.
Caleb complaining about Grace.
Caleb saying the pregnancy had complicated everything.
Caleb saying he wanted a different life.
Then one message made Grace's stomach turn.
“She'll be fine. Women have babies every day.”
Grace closed the laptop.
She walked into the nursery.
Madeline was sleeping.
Grace stood beside the crib, breathing slowly.
She wanted to scream.
Instead, she forwarded everything to Carla.
Then Margaret.
Margaret called immediately.
“Do not respond to Tessa.”
“I won't.”
“Don't post anything online.”
“I know.”
“Let the evidence speak for itself.”
Grace understood.

She didn't need revenge.
She needed the truth documented.
