Chapter 11 - The Inheritance of RuinWhile my father was standing stranded in a luxury hotel lobby with rejected credit cards, the corporate machinery of Hayes Global Innovations was moving with swift, mathematical precision.

Marcus Vance had waste no time executing the emergency equity transfer orders. By Monday morning, the executive offices of Meridian Logistics—the very company Evan had driven into a wall of fraud—were legally placed under my direct operational control.

I sat at the expansive, high-gloss mahogany desk that had once belonged to Evan. The view from the thirtieth floor overlooked the sprawling Boston harbor, the grey water chopping beneath a biting autumn gale.

The nameplates had already been changed. The security badges had been re-encoded. Every trace of Evan’s brief, arrogant reign as CEO had been wiped from the mainframe.

My phone chimed softly on the blotter. An encrypted message from Marcus:

“The bankruptcy magistrate approved the primary asset liquidation schedule. Meridian’s subsidiary accounts are officially frozen. Your parents' blind trust has been formally subpoenaed for asset clawbacks due to direct commingling with illegal wire transfers.”

I leaned back in the leather chair, looking down at my reflection in the polished glass of my laptop screen. Three years ago, I had sat in a freezing studio apartment with a feverish toddler, staring at an eviction notice while my family told me to be “graceful.”

Now, the empire they tried to build on my stolen labor belonged to me, lock, stock, and barrel.
