Chapter 9 - The War Room on Tremont StreetBy 1:30 PM, we were sitting in Marcus Vance’s expansive corner office overlooking Boston Common.

The room was already buzzing with high-level activity. Three senior forensic accountants were clustered around a large digital display board, mapping out the multi-million-dollar asset freeze orders and tracing the international wire transfers Evan and Meridian Logistics had routed through offshore shell companies.
Marcus placed a steaming cup of hot chocolate on the table for Lily, who was busy drawing pictures of smiling cats in a sleek leather-bound legal notebook with a gold-plated pen.
He pulled up a chair opposite me, sliding a thick, freshly printed dossier across the mahogany surface.
“The emergency asset freeze has been fully executed by the federal magistrate,” Marcus said, his tone professional yet tinged with professional admiration. “Every single account tied to Evan Hart, Meridian Logistics, and your parents’ blind trust—which, as it turns out, was also being used to shelter a portion of the embezzled capital—has been locked down.”
I opened the folder, scanning the financial summaries. The numbers were staggering. Through my stolen software patents and the fraudulent contracts Evan had executed behind my back, his firm had been valuation-inflated by over twenty million dollars.
“What happens to Meridian now?” I asked, looking up.
“It goes into federal receivership,” Marcus replied smoothly. “And under the priority creditor clauses you secured in the original intellectual property filings—the ones your ex-husband thought he successfully buried—Hayes Global Innovations is named the primary lienholder and controlling equity owner.”

A slow, victorious smile spread across my face.
“In short, Elena,” Marcus added, leaning back with a faint smirk. “You don’t just get your patents back. You now legally own the company that tried to steal them.”
