Chapter 9 - The Pre-Emptive Strike

At 8:00 AM on Monday morning, while the Montgomery family was likely still trying to figure out how to cover their tracks, Marcus filed an emergency Petition for Ex Parte Injunction & Notice of Fraudulent Cloud on Title with the County Chancery Court.

The filing immediately placed an emergency legal hold on every commercial property account associated with Montgomery Development Enterprises, freezing their ability to pull permits, secure bank loans, or transfer land titles across three counties.

At 9:30 AM, Detective Miller and two officers from the State Bureau of Investigation walked into the offices of Dr. Aris Thorne and Dr. Julian Vance—the two doctors who had signed the fake neurological evaluations. Armed with search warrants, the officers seized patient records, hard drives, and financial logs. Within two hours, Dr. Thorne broke under questioning, admitting he had accepted a $25,000 "consulting fee" from Richard Montgomery to sign pre-dated medical affidavits without ever seeing Margaret Hartwell.

Meanwhile, Marcus delivered a formal complaint to the State Secretary's office regarding Arthur Pendelton's notary license, initiating an immediate criminal investigation into notarization fraud.

I spent the morning at Willowbrook Farm, sitting on the front porch with my mother. I explained everything to her—slowly, gently, and thoroughly.

She sat in her rocking chair, holding a mug of warm tea, listening as the full picture of the Montgomerys' deception was laid bare. She didn't cry. She didn't panic.

She looked out across the green pastures, where the morning sun was burning off the ground fog, exposing the rolling hills and the red timber barn.

"It's not cheap, Mom," I said, putting my arm around her shoulder. "And they're about to find out exactly how much it costs."
