Chapter 4 - The Morning AfterFriday morning broke with a brilliant, golden autumn sun that cast long shadows across the manicured lawns of the suburban estate.

Inside the house, the atmosphere was buzzing with electric, predatory excitement.
Through the HD audio feeds from the hidden security nodes Marcus and I had discreetly upgraded the previous year, I listened to Grant and his family gather in the kitchen over freshly brewed espresso and croissants.
“Did you check the portal?” Caleb asked eagerly, practically bouncing in his seat as he spooned sugar into his cup. “Did the Cayman transfer clear overnight?”
“Almost,” Grant replied, his voice brimming with breathless satisfaction as the sound of laptop keys clattered through the speakers. “Voss’s backend script is running the final verification now. The primary residential deed transfer was filed electronically with the county clerk’s office at 0800 hours. By noon, the house, the accounts, and the investment portfolios will be entirely under our family holding LLC.”
Vivian let out a pleased, purring sigh. “It’s about time justice was served. That girl never appreciated what she inherited. She spent her days staring at numbers like a drone while you were meant to carry the family name into true prosperity, Grant.”
“And Ava?” Marissa chimed in, swirling her coffee. “Has she figured out her return flight is blocked yet?”
Grant laughed—a harsh, mocking sound. “I checked the airline portal an hour ago. Her ticket status shows ‘canceled due to administrative schedule revision.’ By the time she realizes she’s stranded in Paris without a return voucher or active credit cards, the deeds will be locked in stone, and our lawyers will have filed for an expedited asset freeze based on her ‘unresponsive abandonment.’”
I sat at my downtown loft monitor, sipping my hot Earl Grey tea, watching the real-time audio waveform dance across my screen as they celebrated their own impending doom.
They were so intoxicated by greed that they couldn't see the massive, iron-jawed trap snapping shut around their ankles.
At 10:30 AM, my secure line buzzed. It was Marcus Vance again.
“Ava,” Marcus said, his voice laced with grim satisfaction. “The county recorder’s office just confirmed receipt of the electronic deed transfer. Grant Miller and Vivian Miller officially executed the signature block using the legacy hardware token.”
“And the metadata?” I asked.
“Captured, verified, and sealed,” Marcus replied. “The U.S. Attorney’s cybercrime unit has logged the entire transaction stream. Nolan Voss’s offshore proxy in the Caymans has also been flagged by federal financial intelligence. We have everything we need.”
“Don’t move yet,” I instructed calmly, watching the live camera feed of Grant pacing the kitchen floor in his tailored suit, checking his watch every thirty seconds. “Let them taste it first. Let them think they’ve conquered the world.”
“When do you want to lower the boom?” Marcus asked.
“Tonight,” I said, my voice as cold and clear as winter glass. “Grant is hosting a private celebratory dinner at the house tonight to announce his ‘new corporate acquisitions’ to a few select business associates and family friends. Let him make his speech. Let him raise his glass to his brilliant victory.”

“And then?”
“And then we introduce the guests of honor.”
