Chapter 4 - The InspectionFriday morning broke with a sharp, frost-bitten clarity. The autumn rain had cleared, leaving behind a brilliant, blinding sunlight that glittered off the glass facades of the coastal bluffs—the exact sunlight my mother had dreamed of.

At 0800 hours, Marcus Vance met me in the secure parking lot behind the federal courthouse in downtown Boston. He wore a sharp charcoal tailored suit, a leather briefcase clutched in his left hand, and a grim, satisfied smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

“Everything is locked down,” Marcus said, handing me a heavy manila folder. “Federal Magistrate Judge Holloway signed the emergency asset seizure warrant at 0730. The county sheriff’s deputies are staged three miles down the coastal road, and two federal marshals are standing by to execute the criminal summons for your father and brother-in-law.”

I opened the folder, scanning the legal instruments. The signatures were clean, verifiable, and backed by ironclad digital forensics proving that the power-of-attorney used to transfer the deed had been digitally manipulated from an IP address originating from Grant’s corporate office.

“And the board dinner?” I asked.

“Guests start arriving at 1800,” Marcus grinned. “We’ll be ringing the doorbell right around hors d’oeuvres.”

“Good,” I said, closing the folder and handing it back. “Let’s go take back what’s mine.”

We didn't rush. There was no need for haste when you hold all the cards. I spent the afternoon reviewing naval logistics reports, keeping my mind sharp and focused, while behind the scenes, the legal machinery of justice wound its way toward the cliffside villa like an unstoppable tide.
