Chapter 14 - The Wall Breaks

The week before Thanksgiving, the prosecution’s case against Tyler Harrison transformed from a domestic assault trial into an ironclad criminal prosecution.
My mother’s formal affidavit—detailing years of domestic coercion, the specific cover-up of the T-8 spinal fracture, and Richard’s systematic suppression of my medical care—sent shockwaves through my father’s defense team.
Unable to withstand the mountain of physical evidence, medical testimony from Dr. Patel, witness statements from football teammates, and now his own mother’s sworn confession, Tyler’s legal team folded.
On a cold Thursday morning, a formal plea agreement was submitted to the court.
I sat in the small conference room at the district attorney’s office alongside Aunt Caroline and Sarah Jenkins as Prosecutor Reyes laid out the terms of the agreement.
"Tyler has agreed to enter a formal, unconditional guilty plea to one count of felony assault in the second degree and one count of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury," Reyes explained, turning the legal documents toward us.
"What is the sentence?" Aunt Caroline asked firmly.
"Four years in a state correctional facility, followed by three years of intensive supervised probation," Reyes replied. "Furthermore, the conviction carries a permanent, lifetime felony record, meaning his athletic scholarship is officially revoked, and he will be permanently barred from possessing firearms or approaching Olivia."
I looked down at the black-and-white text on the page. Four years in prison. For two years, I had believed that I was powerless, that Tyler was untouchable, and that my father’s money could buy away any crime.
"What about my father?" I asked softly.
Reyes offered a cold, sharp smile. "Richard Harrison is currently under federal investigation for witness tampering and obstruction of justice based on your mother’s statement and the recorded jailhouse phone calls. His law partners have already voted to remove him from the firm to protect their corporate reputation. His empire is completely gone, Olivia."
I took a deep, slow breath. The knot of fear that had lived in my chest since I was a little girl finally began to loosen its grip.

"Where do I sign?" I asked.
