Chapter 14 - Closing the Loop

Thursday morning brought the final official paperwork from Mr. Levin’s office.

The emergency dissolution decree had been signed by the family court judge, making the divorce absolute and binding under expedited uncontested terms, given the overwhelming documentation of financial fraud and asset concealment.

Daniel had signed the waiver releasing me from all past, present, and future commercial liabilities. His name had been permanently removed from every public and private record associated with the Elm Street property.

I sat at my kitchen table, reviewing the final certified copy of the deed bearing my name alone: Claire Vance, Sole Owner.

My phone buzzed on the wood surface. It was a brief text message from an unknown number—likely a prepaid burner phone Daniel had picked up after his main line was disconnected.

> I’m sorry, Claire. For all of it. I wish I had listened to you instead of my own arrogance.

I stared at the screen for a few seconds. There was no anger left to fuel a response. No desire to hurt him back or gloat over his ruin.

I simply tapped the menu icon, selected Delete Conversation, and blocked the number permanently.
