Chapter 14 - The Confrontation at DuskThe private airfield outside Yonkers was bathed in the harsh, blood-orange glow of a setting autumn sun.

Our convoy of three black armored SUVs stormed through the perimeter security gates, scattering Costa’s remaining bodyguards like glass. Tires screeched against the tarmac as Dominic’s vehicle cut off a sleek private Gulfstream jet idling on the runway, its turbine engines screaming at full power.

Before the jet’s boarding stairs could retract, Enzo and his men had secured the perimeter.

Dominic stepped out of our SUV into the howling wind kicked up by the jet engines. I stepped out right beside him, wearing a dark trench coat, my eyes locked on the aircraft door.

The cabin door pushed open, and Victor Costa appeared—disheveled, desperate, clutching a chrome-plated pistol in his right hand.

“Rossi!” Costa screamed over the roar of the jet engines, his face twisted with mad fury. “You think you’ve won? I’ll put a bullet through your new bride’s head before I go down!”

Costa raised his weapon, aiming straight across the tarmac toward me.

My heart didn't skip a beat. Muscle memory from the Aster Crown flared in my veins, but I didn't need to dive.

Before Costa’s finger could squeeze the trigger, a deafening crack echoed across the tarmac.

Dominic’s custom sniper rifle, handled by an elite enforcer stationed on the ridge, shattered Costa’s right shoulder. The pistol dropped from his hand with a metallic clatter, and Costa screamed, collapsing against the aluminum stairs of the jet.

Within seconds, Enzo and his men swarmed the stairs, slamming Costa face-first onto the cold concrete and slapping heavy steel cuffs around his wrists.

Dominic walked slowly across the tarmac, his hands buried deep in his coat pockets, stopping inches from the bleeding, defeated mob boss.

“You made the mistake of touching what was mine, Victor,” Dominic said quietly, his voice carrying effortlessly over the wind.

As Costa was dragged away toward a waiting federal transport van, the nightmare that had haunted my life since the Aster Crown finally evaporated into the evening air.
