Chapter 15 - The Unshakable Foundation

As November rolled into December, the harsh Arizona summer gave way to crisp, brilliant winter days. The desert air turned cool and refreshing, perfect for long walks along the perimeter of my property.
My health had fully returned. My lungs were clear, my voice was strong, and the physical weakness that had plagued me after the hospital stay was a distant memory.
Drew had settled nicely into his new life in Tempe, dropping by every weekend to help me workshop digital rendering models for my architectural firm. Marla still brought tacos on Fridays, and the ghost of the family reunion disaster had faded into local suburban folklore.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon and painted the western sky in magnificent strokes of violet and gold, I stood alone on the back patio.
I looked out over the infinity pool, its crystal-clear water mirroring the brilliant canopy of stars beginning to emerge overhead.
Every single stone, every beam of steel, every pane of glass, and every foot of land beneath my feet was real. It wasn't borrowed, it wasn't stolen, and it wasn't built on a foundation of lies.

I took a deep, clear breath of the cool desert air, smiled to myself, and walked back inside, closing the heavy glass door against the quiet, beautiful night.
