Chapter 8 - The Monday Reorganization

By Monday morning, the corporate headquarters of Beaumont & Hart felt entirely transformed.
When I walked through the revolving doors at 8:45 a.m., the lobby staff didn't just nod; they greeted me with genuine, respectful authority. The atmosphere on the thirtieth floor was focused, clean, and energized.
Marcus Sterling’s legal team had finished drafting the comprehensive corporate restructuring agreement over the weekend.
I sat at the head of the massive French walnut conference table, reviewing the final drafts alongside David Higgins, who now served as our chief financial officer.
“The board has unanimously ratified your permanent appointment as CEO, Ms. Vance,” David said, sliding a polished leather folder across the desk. “And the preliminary audit reports show that without the bloated marketing budgets Vanessa managed, our profit margins have jumped four percent in a single week.”
“Cut the administrative waste entirely,” I instructed, signing my name across the corporate seal in clean, bold strokes. “And make sure our retail floor staff receive a hazard and performance bonus this quarter. They’re the ones who actually keep this company breathing.”

David smiled, nodding appreciatively. “Done.”
