Chapter 10 - Restoring the PerimeterBy the end of the week, the house at 442 Oak Ridge Lane finally felt like mine again.

I hired a professional locksmith on Tuesday morning to re-key every exterior door, install a smart keypad deadbolt, and upgrade the home security system with high-definition cameras covering every perimeter angle. No one was ever getting into this house again without my explicit digital clearance.

On Friday evening, I walked down the basement stairs, pulled back the hidden tongue-and-groove wooden floor panel, and unlocked Grandpa’s heavy steel Chubb safe.

I pulled out the property deed, checked the seals, and placed it back alongside my deployment ribbons and service records.

Then I booted up my laptop. The financial audit was complete; the credit union had formally reversed the fraudulent wire transfers, restoring my full deployment balance plus interest recovered through court-mandated restitution liens placed on my parents' joint assets.

I leaned back in my chair, listening to the quiet, steady hum of the house above me. No shouting matches. No slamming doors. No entitled relatives demanding a cut of what I had bled to earn.

My rucksack was unpacked. My boots were polished and sitting neatly by the front door.

The deployment was officially over, and the home front was finally secure.
