Chapter 1 - The Shattered Threshold

The heavy oak doors of the Vance estate didn't just open; they smashed against the interior stone walls with a force that rattled the ancient crystal sconces along the grand hallway. Lord Jonathan Vance stood tall over Julian’s sprawling form, his chest heaving under his embroidered waistcoat, his breath coming in heavy, jagged gasps laced with a rage that had taken two decades to finally boil over. Julian spat a dark splatter of crimson blood onto the pristine, polished white marble floor, his smug, aristocratic composure finally shattering into jagged pieces under the old man’s raw physical fury. Behind the sweeping grand velvet curtains of the foyer, Clara cowered, her trembling hands pressed tightly over her bruised, swollen face. Her breath hitched in panicked gasps every time her eyes locked onto Julian's cold, merciless gaze.

"You thought my lineage was weak, boy?!" Jonathan roared, his voice echoing off the thirty-foot vaulted ceilings like thunder before a destructive storm. He reached deep into the breast pocket of his tailored coat and pulled out a heavy silver key, intricately carved with the family’s ancient heraldic crest. Ignoring Julian’s desperate, sprawling attempts to pull himself up using the leg of a mahogany table, Jonathan stepped toward the dark wood-paneled wall and jammed the key into a hidden seam. The wood groaned as a hidden steel vault swung open, exposing rows of dust-covered, black-leather ledgers sealed with dark red wax. Julian’s eyes widened, all the arrogance draining from his pale face to reveal sudden, absolute terror. "You don't even know what house you stepped into," Jonathan growled, turning back to the young man with murderous eyes.
