Chapter 14 - The Foundation of Light

Two months later.
Spring in New England arrived with an explosion of white apple blossoms and warm, brilliant sunshine across the Cambridge countryside.
On a sunlit Thursday morning, a crowd of over three hundred engineers, university deans, corporate partners, and press reporters gathered on the grounds of MIT’s technology campus.
I stood behind a polished oak podium in front of a newly constructed, state-of-the-art four-story glass building. Above the main entrance hung bold brushed-aluminum lettering: THE ARTHUR VANCE RESEARCH CENTER FOR AI ETHICS AND SECURITY.
Beside me stood Clara, Margaret Sloan, and Dr. Elena Rostova.
"Today," I spoke into the microphone, my voice echoing clearly across the sunlit courtyard, "Aurelia Systems, in partnership with the Arthur Vance Trust, officially opens a fifty-million-dollar non-profit research facility dedicated to ensuring that emerging technology is built on transparency, integrity, and human dignity."
The crowd applauded warmly.
"For many years," I continued, looking out at the young male and female engineering students sitting in the front rows, "the tech industry has celebrated aggressive frontmen who prioritize rapid growth and personal fame over ethics and truth. We are here to change that paradigm."
I picked up a pair of golden ceremonial scissors. Dr. Rostova and Clara joined me, holding the thick crimson ribbon spanning the building's entrance.
"To innovation without deceit," I announced. "And to leadership without fear."
SNAP.
The crimson ribbon fell. The crowd erupted into a loud, joyous ovation, cameras flashing as young students flooded through the glass doors of the new center.
Clara wrapped her arm around my waist, squeezing me tight. "Dad is watching this right now, Audrey. I know he is."
I looked up at the clear blue sky, feeling the warm spring sun wash over my face.

The company my father built was no longer just a commercial success; it was a beacon of ethical leadership that would outlast every scandal, every lie, and every corporate raider who had tried to tear it down.
